About Me

I started this site in 2021 as a place to record my thoughts about music. My focus is mostly on the reconciliation between the things of music and the way music makes sense to us (structure and sign or formalism and semiotics); as a reflection of a worldview, albeit “through a glass darkly.”

I have worked in many facets of education (public school and collegiate), in military bands, directing ensembles and music theater, teaching music theory, history, and film music appreciation. I perform as a professional pianist/keyboardist around the country and compose music for a wide range of groups from concert band, choir, big band, chamber groups, and soloists.

I hold degrees in music composition from the Hartt School of Music, the University of South Florida and a doctorate from George Mason University. I also have a master’s degree in education from the University of Bridgeport. My family and I live in San Antonio, Texas where I worked as the pianist/keyboardist for the USAF active duty Band of the West.
